Jiggers - Review
When strolling down Main Street, East Greenwich, you’ll notice an eclectic array of restaurants, businesses and Shops. It really does have that small town feel and is exactly what you think of when you think of "Main st". There are many great restaurants that me and my sisters frequent but today Lily and I went to Jiggers Main Street Diner for breakfast. Old fashion diners are few and far between these days and there’s something about their old school charm that just makes me happy. My favorite part about old diners is the atmosphere, I feel like it paints a picture of a much simpler time; old music plays in the background, the tin ceiling, smell of fresh coffee and people eating great food. Jiggers is no exception, the ambience is quaint and welcoming, the music is always playing and the food is delicious. Jiggers serves breakfast and lunch all day and has a wide variety on their menu to choose from. Their specials are always amazing and creative, Lily and I both tried out one of the specials today.
So Lily and I decided to split one sweet and one savory dish because, why not! I ordered the spicy eggs Benedict and Lily ordered the raspberry stuffed French toast Yum!
The spicy eggs Benedict was a mix of spicy sausage and home fries topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce with Frank’s red hot in it. Oh my God, the hollandaise sauce was so creamy and had the perfect amount of spice! It was served alongside a sandwich size English muffin and getting a little bit of the sausage, home fries, egg and sauce in one bite was perfect.
The raspberry French toast on the specials menu immediately caught my eye so I figured I’d give it a try. The French toast wasn’t too heavy which is a problem I find a lot with French toast. This French toast was light and airy and had the perfect ratios of cream cheese to whipped cream to raspberry jam. The option of syrup up that’s always left on the table is unnecessary because the flavors on their own are perfect and don't need anything else. As always both dishes were delicious and unique.
Jiggers has a large variety of breakfast options, definitely something for everyone whether you are trying to eat healthy or having a cheat day. They have a whole section of omelettes that you can choose from as well as several different eggs benedict options (lily's favorite) and your good old classics like pancakes or just eggs and bacon/sausage. They have a variety of sides to choose from if you don’t want home fries which is always nice. If that wasn't enough to sell you, the service is always friendly and timely. I would like to note that it is a small diner and if you are going with a small child or a baby like I did it was a little difficult because they do not offer highchairs and the bathroom is very tiny with no changing table. I was able to keep Beckett in his car seat but if you have a slightly older child it may be tough without bringing one of those seats that clamp onto the table; Click here for an example. Also, due to its small size, if you’re going at a busy time you might have to wait and it may be outside. However, between the atmosphere and the food it is definitely worth the wait!
